The chorus was formed in 1988 with six enthusiastic singers and is now a very successful and popular barbershop harmony chorus of over thirty members. Based in Monmouth the club augments its membership from as far afield as West Wales, Hereford and Gloucester and areas in between.
The Wye Valley Chorus is a member of the British Association of Barbershop Singers, (BABS) which comprises fifty clubs nationwide and recently moved into the top ten choruses in obtaining an excellent eighth place overall in the BABS Silver Jubilee Convention in Blackpool and in doing so became the Top Welsh Chorus.
During the last few years the chorus has entertained in Ireland, Germany and on television. They were judged the most entertaining performance and best singing group in the Hereford Music Festival 1998 and 1999 taking the silver medal in the International category at the Irish Convention of Barbershop Singers in 1998.
Despite competition successes the main objective of the group is to entertain the public with a very special style which undoubtedly sets it apart from other singing groups, adding colour, humour and animation to harmonious musicality.
